How can I believe in a God I don't see?
Many people cite the fact that they cannot see God as the reason they do not believe in God. The Bible testifies that God is invisible and has no physical form. Yet the Creator of all things is greater than anything that exists and that a human being could ever imagine. From the Bible, we learn how God appears to humans as light or in the form of a cloud. In other places, God temporarily took on the appearance of a human or an angel. In some prophetic writings, God is described as a person with white hair sitting on a throne. In these examples, God appears in a visible form to interact with his creatures.
In the Old Testament, God spoke to prophets through dreams and visions. Occasionally, God performed miracles to confirm the messages of His messengers. Yet, despite these visible signs, people were unwilling to listen to God and follow His instructions. It was similar with Jesus, the Son of God. When Jesus was on earth, people saw and heard him. They ate and drank with him; they spoke with him, and they could touch him. They witnessed the unique miracles that Jesus performed among them in the power of God. The leaders of his people knew that Jesus had fulfilled all the prophecies of Holy Scripture, which were meant to prove that he was the Savior promised by God. Yet many did not believe his message or turned away from him.
The real reason people don't believe in God is that they are unwilling to submit to God's rule. Whether they can see God or not usually has nothing to do with it. It is primarily human pride that prevents them from coming to God. Faith requires a humble heart and the insight that God's will, not ours, should determine our lives.
Those who don't want to believe in God will never allow anything to convince them of God. Instead, they will always find reasons and excuses for their unbelief. When they stand before God's throne on the Day of Judgment, they will no longer be able to deny Him, even if it will then be too late for repentance....
The Bible states that God's existence is evident in His works; that is, in what God has created. This includes nature, the universe, and us humans. Anyone who reflects objectively and considers the perfect order in God's creation should come to the conclusion that only a benevolent and almighty Creator can be the cause. Therefore, there is no excuse for us humans not to believe in God.
Even though God is invisible, every person has the opportunity to become convinced of God's existence. If we seek God with our whole heart—for example, by reading the Bible and asking about Him—we can get to know Him. Anyone who understands how much God loves us humans cannot help but love and worship Him. Those who open their hearts to God and live according to His Word will recognize God's presence in all areas of their lives. In this way, we can be as close to God as if we could see Him. In this way, faith becomes alive and the existence of God becomes a firm and undeniable certainty.
